It is always a demanding task to look out for different artists that share a specific style of music. You will probably agree that artists like Goldfrapp, Tone Loc, Norah Jones or Clara Hill do not have much in common at first sight. However, in combination they serve the same mood and create a relaxing and warming flow of music. Most titles on this 5ths edition of lounge mixes were released in 2007 or 2006 but as always I have also included some classic songs like Tone Loc’s ‘All Through The Night’ from 1991 and Shirley Bassey’s 1970 cover version of ‘Light My Fire’ which was originally released by The Doors in 1967. My personal favourite on this mix is Goldfrapp’s ‘Pilots (On A Star)’ – not typical for Goldfrapp, but famous for me. Enjoy!

When Martine Girault’s “Revival” was released in 1992 lounge music was not yet a brand at all. However, this song (and many others from older days) represents very much of what I understand under lounge music. It is laid back downtempo music; very much cooling down but at the same time inspiring. Many songs in this mix follow that definition, e.g. Ursula Rucker’s “Circe” or Jay Jay Johanson’s “Tell The Girls I’m Back In Town”. However, I included also some mellow and soul songs in this mix to keep it balanced. Therefore, you’ll find names like Incognito, Afterlife and Grace Jones on the mix as well. Please pay special attention to Hildegard Knef’s “Du Bist Mein Salz In Der Suppe” or Sting’s “Windmills Of Your Mind” – they are remarkable classics, I love them.

When I collected the songs for this mix I started with tunes like Aya’s “Nobody Knows Me” (please don’t miss this album – its magic), Incognito’s “Beneath The Surface” and Erykah Badu’s “Think Twice”. But also, I wanted to include some real classics and stylish songs, e.g. Lisa Ekdahl’s “Rivers Of Love” or Chris Rea’s “Josephine” on the one hand and Metro Area’s “Soft Hoop” or Dobster’s “COP” on the other hand. Therefore, it took quite a while to combine the different styles and – often understated – to give them the right order in the mix. What you will find now is a selection of different styles and songs in a mix indeed, but all of the songs have one thing in common: They serve a concept of relaxing lounge music and I hope you will like it – enjoy.

This mix starts with a short sequence of “Moments In Love” from the Art Of Noise and features a real lounge “classic” later on: Jaffa’s “Elevator”. Moreover, it includes some very nice jazz-funk tunes from back in the days – check out Kool & The Gang’s “Summer Madness” (which you might recognize from Will Smith’s “Summertime” hit), Sivuca’s version of Bill Wither classic song “Ain’t No Sunshine” or Randy Crawford’s “Rio De Janeiro Blue”. It’s worth mentioning that two songs in this mix are also featured in the Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tape collection – Talc’s “Modern Sleep Over” and D’Nell’s “This Thing”. The “classic” songs in this mix are Beats International’s “Dub Be Good To Me” from 1990 and Galliano’s “Prince Of Piece” from 1992.
