This mix goes back to the roots of jazz-funk and spheric funk music. The list of artists includes famous names like Azymuth, Bob James, Deodato, Hank Crawford, Herbie Hancock and Rythm Heritage, but also less well known names like American Gypsy, Cream De Coco and Michael Longo. Certain songs like 9th Creation’s ‘Bubble Gum’ are extremely rare, others like Klaus Wunderlich’s ‘Let’s Do The Latin Hustle’ do not even seem to exist. One of my favourite songs in the mix is Archie Bell & the Dells’ ‘Strategy’ from 1979 which was covered by Faithless for ‘Muhammad Ali’ in 2002. Also don’t miss Rosko’s ‘Peace Maker’ which is based on Richard Strauss’ ‘Also sprach Zarathustra’ dating back to 1896. While listening to the song you may find that the horns are slightly fluttering. Please believe me that this effect is definitely not caused by my turntable.
